Wound Healing
Simulation of the wound region. The computer model incorporates the dynamics of division, spreading and semi-persistent crawling that we measure for real cells. The small animation on the previous page is a zoomed in view of a simulated culture growing to confluence.
Through a combination of computer modeling and experimentation we are working toward a comprehensive understanding of monolayer sheet migration. Progress in this area could lead to strategies for the re-endothelialization of small diameter vascular grafts. These images show experimental and simulated wound healing 0, 12, and 24 hours after initial wounding.
