Noninvasive Vision Correction by Femtosecond Micromachining

Abstract:

We discuss the application of femtosecond high repetition rate lasers to the problem of vision correction. We investigate two areas of interest: hydrogels, which are applicable to contact lenses and intra-ocular lens correction, and direct writing into the live cornea, wherein we can create controllable refractive index corrections. We discuss fundamentals as well as the potential applications of this technology.
